How Not to Read

Review of Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading by Tommy Greenwald

Charlie Joe is an endearing character. He is a self-promoted, proud, non-reader. And everyone knows it. He has his friends, even his sister, read books for him so he can complete his classwork. The story is written as if Charlie Joe is talking to us, making sure we understand him better. Included along with this journey is frequent tips where he informs the reader how not to read. They are amusing and I love his suggestion to read books where chapters are short. Most of the format of this book follows that and before you know it, you've read all 60+ chapters!

Charlie Joe is sure to engage even the most reluctant of readers. While he's in middle school, upper elementary students are sure to relate to him too.
